The incident took place around 8 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28, after members of the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Troop C patrols attempted to arrest an unidentified man wanted on numerous warrants on charges that include assault and attempted murder.

The suspect is believed to have fled on foot in Worcester County into the woods near the Charlton Plaza on the Massachusetts Turnpike, state police said.

Numerous troopers established a perimeter and, along with MSP K9 Units, began a search for the suspect.

About an hour later a sport utility vehicle that had fled the scene after the suspect ran from it was located at the Walmart off Route 146 in Worcester.

The female driver of that vehicle was detained for further investigation.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. the search in the woods near the plaza was terminated with the suspect not found, state police said.

The investigation into the suspect’s whereabouts is ongoing.
